The DC forum provides doctoral students with opportunities to:

Students are asked to submit a brief proposal outlining their doctoral research. The Doctoral Consortium Committee will evaluate each application. Strong applications will be selected for presentation during the Doctoral Consortium session.

Each student with an accepted submission will be assigned one or two mentors who will provide feedback on the student's work. A mentoring session will take place during the conference. Doctoral Consortium students are expected to attend.

All submissions must be written in English. Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format through the EasyChair submission system . Select the Doctoral Consortium track when submitting.

Each Doctoral Consortium application should be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation from the student's primary dissertation advisor. The letter may be submitted in any format. The advisor should email the recommendation letter to umap2027-dc@um.org with the student's name in the subject line.

Guidance for the Advisor's Letter: The Doctoral Consortium is intended for students who have a clear understanding of their research plans and have started their research but have not yet completed the majority of the work. The letter should explain how participation in the ACM UMAP 2027 Doctoral Consortium would benefit the student at this stage of the doctoral program. It should also describe the contributions the student is expected to make to the group and the student's expected level of progress by June 2027. If you are unable to obtain a Letter of Recommendation from your dissertation advisor, please email a short explanation.

Proposals will be reviewed using a single-blind review process. Submissions therefore do not need to be anonymized before submission.

Following the ACM Publication Workflow , all authors should submit manuscripts for review using the ACM double-column format.

Use the latest version of the ACM Primary Article Template for LaTeX . Start the document with:

This command produces the required double-column format. Please review the ACM LaTeX documentation and the ACM LaTeX Best Practices Guide . Ignore instructions for single-column submissions.

Do not use the manuscript option because the document will not compile in the required double-column format. Check the sample-sigconf.tex file included with the template for a formatting example. To ensure compatibility with the ACM Publishing System (TAPS), use only packages listed in the ACM whitelist of approved LaTeX packages .

Use \documentclass[sigconf,review]{acmart} for the required double-column format. Please follow ACM's instructions for preparing your article with Overleaf .

Follow ACM's instructions for preparing your article with Microsoft Word . Ignore the single-column instructions and the single-column submission template. Use the ACM double-column Word template .

Plagiarized papers will not be accepted. Submitted papers will be checked using an automated plagiarism-detection tool to help ensure content originality. If you reuse non-novel text from a prior publication, such as a description of an algorithm or dataset, cite the prior publication as the source. Questions about text reuse or simultaneous submission should be directed to the program chairs at least one week before the submission deadline.

Authors must follow the ACM policy on the use of generative AI software tools . If a paper contains material generated by GenAI tools, including text produced by large language models, the extent and nature of the use must be disclosed in a section titled Acknowledgments.

AI tools used only for editing and refinement, including grammar checking, word autocorrection, and similar light editorial assistance, do not require disclosure. Authors remain fully responsible for inaccuracies, bias, plagiarism, and other violations resulting from the use of GenAI tools. Submissions primarily produced by GenAI without substantial author contribution are prohibited and considered spam. Only humans may be listed as authors.

Papers that violate these guidelines may be rejected without review. Cases may also be referred to the ACM Publications Ethics and Plagiarism Committee for further action where appropriate.

Authors are strongly encouraged to provide alternative text, or alt text, for images, tables, and other important visual content. Alt text provides descriptive information for readers with disabilities and can improve the indexing of visual content by search engines. Authors should follow the ACM Accessibility Recommendations for Publishing in Color and guidelines for describing figures .

All submissions and reviews will be handled electronically. ACM UMAP has a no dual submission policy. Submitted manuscripts must not be under review at another publication venue at the same time.

Each accepted proposal in the Doctoral Consortium track must be accompanied by an author registration. Student registration is valid. Each accepted proposal must be presented in person during the Doctoral Consortium session to be included in the main conference proceedings, published by ACM, and made available through the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date is the date when the proceedings become available in the ACM Digital Library. This may occur up to two weeks before the first day of UMAP 2027. The official publication date may affect deadlines for patent filings related to the published work.
